The Secret Post Office

Here is our family's version of a Secret Post Office. I put this out on day 10 of the Silly Sock Countdown and we write Love notes to each other until Valentines Day, when we get to open them.
I mod podged the paper onto the wooden sign. Then embellished with some yarn and flowers.
I wanted it to look like a real mailbox stand so I used a 4x4 post that we had left over from another project. I screwed a knob into it to hang the sign. then I cut 2x4's to form a square on the bottom that the 4x4 would sit nicely in. The top piece of wood (where the mailboxes are) is velcroed to the top of the post. It comes apart into 3 separate pieces for storage. In the middle, I put an embellished Crystal Light can and paper mache box to hold the markers, cards, stickers, and paper. On the paper mache box I added a clothespin and each day I changed which kind of card to make. One day we wrote I love you because...., one day we decorated napkins with sweet messages to use for Valentines Day dinner. I just did whatever I thought of that day.
I found these mailboxes at Michaels and used wood scraps from our garage to make this.

  3. So I made our own Valentine's Post Office and my kids LOVE IT! I had no idea it would be as popular as it is. One thing I'm going to do this week is set a daily theme so that the love notes don't get boring or they loose interest. So I'll post a starting sentence like, "I love it when you...", "You make me laugh when...". They open their mailboxes several times during the day and if my husband or I don't check ours often we get questioned.... Its a great way to bring us closer and remind us why we love each other... Thanks so much for your suggestion! Chrissy Fitch
