Easter Egg Holders

Show Off Those Beautiful Easter Eggs!

My kids have been begging me to use the Floam that I picked up on clearance several months ago and I finally found a fun project to use it on.  I felt inspired by all of the cute toilet paper roll Easter egg holders that I have seen out there so we did some with Floam!

Let me first say that Floam is a MESS!  It looks as though it will be squishy and moldable like Play-Dough but it is actually more of a sticky consistency...like melted marshmallow....just warning you!  That being said it is a very easy and cute way to decorate TP rings for Easter Eggs!

I found that it worked best on this project to smear it on with a butter knife, just like you are spreading frosting onto a cupcake.

Then let them dry for several hours.  I just put them onto a paper plate.

The edges looked too unfinished to me.

I dipped both sides into white paint and set them out to dry.

And here is the final Easter Egg Holder.

Spring Break~Hooray!

Sprink Break at our house is a party!
I have been looking forward to it almost as much as my kids.
I have also been cooking up some fun things to do with my Super Mommy Friends.
Now if the weather will only cooperate!

Here is how our week is looking:

Monday:  Mommy Photo Shoot.  The hostess for Monday invited us to meet with cameras on location to get some fun SPRING shots of our kids...if they cooperate! (otherwise it will be the backs of their heads...which is usually what I get!)  I am super excited though...I need to pick out some clothes  for them to wear so we are ready to go!

Tuesday:  $1 Movie Day.  The hostess for Tuesday invited us to meet at the Cheap Theater for a movie (The Squeakquel) and then go to a park for a picnic if the weather permits...my fingers are crossed!

Wednesday: Kite Making and Flying: I found this great site for making kites that REALLY fly!

Thursday:  Host a "Bike Wash"  I noticed that all of our riding toys are looking a bit yucky after the long winters rest so I thought it would be fun to invite our neighbors over and let the kids wash them all!  We will provide the soap, water, and sponges!

Friday:  Easter Egg Hunt:  See how I am hosting this Eggstreme party here.

Share your fun spring break plans!

Happy Spring Break Everyone!

Five Fun Easter Activities for your Family

Easter Family Fun
Here are some things we plan to do this year.

1.  We've been EGGED!   Hide Easter eggs filled with treats around the doorsteps of your neighbors, your kiddos will love playing Easter bunny!  Leave a sign that says "We've been Egged!" Then ding-dong ditch them!  When we do this we add a little "now go egg someone else!" to the bottom of the sign and that keeps it going around the neighborhood.  Here is my simple sign you can use, I backed it with paper too.

2.  Have an Egg Dyeing Party.  I am always up for a party!!  We usually get together with cousins for this.  Cover the table and get ready for a mess.  Messes are more fun with friends or cousins, anyway!
Egg dyeing usually goes way too fast (because how many hard boiled eggs do we need?!) So here are some ideas of how to draw out the fun!
Plan to go beyond the dye!  I saw these cute animals stamped on eggs here and I thought it would be fun to use raw potatoes or apples to make the stamps and gel food coloring (the kind in my Wilton cake decorating set) as the ink.  We also have these "color-a-cookie" food markers that would be fun to embellish the eggs with (after they are dry)!

Plan to make a fun Easter treat too.  Last year we made these cute nests with eggs.  They are so easy and yummy.  Just follow the recipe for "crispy rice treats" on the marshmallow bag, except use crunchy chinese noodles instead of rice crispies cereal.  Then fill the nest with candy eggs, I like the Cadbury ones!

3.  Make a fun Egg display:
Plant real grass (You need 10-12 days, so do it soon to have it on Easter!) See how we did it here.

Use toilet paper rolls to make some cute egg holders to put on your table (or in the grass) like shown here or here.

4.  Host an Easter Egg Hunt:  We are lucky that the week before Easter is our spring break!  We used to do egg hunts at a park for playgroup when my kids were younger so I am excited that my oldest will be home this year!  Here is what I am planning:   I think I will host it at my house this year.  It usually goes really fast so I am planning to do some extra activities with it.

Craft:  I am going to have white and pink paper to make bunny ears and black eye liner to do bunny face painting before the big event.   Then as the kids run around they will look like little bunnies.  (I doubt my 9 year old will go for it, but maybe we will have the big kids do the painting!!)
Hunt:  I am going to ask everyone to bring 12 candy filled eggs per child.  Then as we hunt by age group, everyone can bring that many home.
Decorations:  I want to decorate, (of course!) so I thought I would drape the back patio with yard stakes and pastel crepe paper between to keep the kiddos out of the "hunting" area until we are ready (then they can break through) and it would be fun to make bunny prints on the back patio with baby powder, here are some of my practice ones....
Food:  I think it would be fun to do a little potluck lunch after the festivities too....it is supposed to be warm.

5.  Have a Jerusalem Dinner:  Eat like the Savior did.  Light candles, sit on pillows on the floor, use a low table (I am going to use our coffee table) and one main bowl of food which everyone dips their hands in, dont use utensils (luckily it is finger food anyway).   I set this stuff out on our coffee table to take a quick photo but I can assure you I will be moving the white rug, especially if I am serving grape juice!!

Eat foods like:  grape juice, whole wheat loaves, dried figs, goat cheeses, lamb, raisins, pomegranites, cantelope, or fish.

Activities:  let them taste (or just smell) vinegar since it is what Christ was given to drink while on the cross.  Turn off all lights and explain that there was darkness when Christ was crucified.  Wash each others feet and explain that Christ wants us to feed his sheep and serve each other.

(this idea is from my friend Carrie who has a book called A Christ Centered Easter by Janet and Joe Hales, I cant wait to do it this year!).  For a whole lot more Christ Centered Easter Ideas go here.

I compiled some of these fun ideas last year with my crafty buddies Amber, Carrie, and Caroll (who also did the trees with me). I cant remember who shared what so I wanted to give credit to everyone!  Thanks guys!

Plant REAL grass for your Easter table.

REAL Easter Grass
Real grass is a super cute way to display your colored Easter eggs!
I didnt have a low rectangle pot so I grabbed a box out of the garage.  Then I decorated it with paper and mod podge.   I used a leftover bag of grass seed from the garage and some potting soil.
Here is what you'll need to make it like I did:
a box (or a pot)
2 large garbage bags
paper
mod podge
ribbon, ric-rac, or whatever embellishment you want to use
grass seed
potting soil or vermiculite

Cut the paper to fit the outsides of your box.
Mod-podge them on.  I needed to use 2 kinds of paper on the long sides.

If you want to put a saying onto your box you can do it with paper, chipboard letters, or vinyl.  My paper pack came with these cute letters so we spelled out SPRING and backed it with a couple of the papers.
Once the mod podge is dry sand the edges and hot glue ric-rac on.  If you want to really protect your paper  add a coat or two of mod podge on top as well.

Take the box outside and double line it with garbage bags.  Fill it with soil, sprinkle a thick layer of seed, then put another thin layer of soil on top of the seed.

Trim the edges of your bags down and then roll the edges into the box holding down with a tiny bit of soil where needed.

Now all thats left to do is wait for it to grow!
HAPPY 1st DAY OF SPRING and
HAPPY PLANTING!!

Countdown Resurrection Eggs

We can find use of a pink tree for almost every holiday!

Countdown to Easter
Here is my version of Ressurection Eggs as a countdown (or not, you could read them all at one time depending on how your busy nights go!)

The first thing you need is a tree!
If you dont have a pink one like mine, you can always just get a branch and put it in a pot of rocks like this one I did at Thanksgiving time.  I also saw a cute one like this in Pottery Barn for Easter.

Then you make your eggs.
I have 12 eggs.  Inside each egg is a surprise and attached to the outside of each egg is a scripture that goes with it.  I printed out the numbers for the eggs, then backed them with paper and embellished them.  Then I stuck them to the outside of the egg with a sticky dot.
Then I took thin rope and strung it through the holes in the tops of the eggs.  I printed out the scriptures from Matthew, punched them at the top, and put them on the rope as well.
Here is a list of the 12 scriptures and the 12 surprises for inside:

one: a miniature paper or plastic cup (Mathew 26:39)

two: 3 dimes (Mathew 26: 14-15)

three: a piece of rope (Mathew 27:1-2)

four: a small piece of soap (Mathew 27: 24-26)

five: red fabric (Mathew 27:29-30)

six: a nail (Mathew 27: 31-32)

seven: dice (Mathew 27:35-37)

eight: several small rocks (Mathew 27:50-52)

nine: white piece of cloth (Mathew 27: 58-60)

ten: one large stone (27:60, 65-66)

eleven: sweet spices, I use cloves (Mark 16:1; Mathew 28:2, &5)

twelve: leave this one empty (Mark 16:6)

Easter Banner

I put all of the St Patty's stuff away last night so we are On to Easter!
....which is sneaking up on us this year.

Easter Banner
I made this last year with the little chipboard kits from Michaels. I thought of it for Easter but then went a little crazy with the idea and made chipboard banners for Summer, 4th of July, Back to School, and Autumn....I will post those at a later date but if you see the chipboard kits, grab them because they dont last long.
The kits come 5 pieces for $1!  Easter has 6 letters though...so I just traced a flower onto a piece of chipboard that I had and cut it out with scissors.  Then I covered them all with coordinating papers, using mod podge.  Next,  I glued on white chipboard letters to spell EASTER and embellished them with ribbons, flowers, and jewels.  Lastly, I punched holes into the tops of them and tied them to a wide pink ribbon.
